Trouble is Keith the government will look at that the exact same way you just did. They would see that they would be getting in less money so why would they change the current system? I totally agree that it should be on fuel/electricity as well but unfortunately I don't see it happening anytime soon.

Hey Vtec Lad. Welcome to the site. :) Judging by your name and mention of jap influence I assume you're dropping in a vtec? make sure you throw up a build thread in the projects section. (include lots of pictures! :P) I like the way you've started though...buying wheels and shafts...really working f...

I think it was just a low quality part pure and simple. My old cap was on it which is the exact same measurement and didnt crack or anything. Yeah, I adjusted the points a few times to see if there was any difference. Now I have power to the coil, when I connect the king coil to a spark plug it spar...

I tried the bulb test today. The bulb comes on when the ignition switch comes on but as soon as I crank the engine it stays off. I'm assuming now the points arent set up right? I havent changed anything engine wise. It's been six years since it ran though. The new dizzy cap I bought had the little c...

Keith, I changed the set up for the test as you suggested and there is now a spark coming from the spark plug as i remove and attach the earth cable. I then refitted everything but still nothing. What should the clearance be for the points just so I can be sure they are the right gap? I have them se...

I know I don't have the vacuum pipe attached in the photo. It was just easier to leave it off as I was taking out the dizzy to clean it ...

Thanks for the replies guys. I checked the voltage of the coil when the ignition was switched on from the positive of the coil where the white wire connects to the earth...tried both the bracket holding the coil and a bolt on the rad housing to use as an earth. The voltage was 11.6V using both. I co...

Hey forum. (Car is an 83 City carb, non ballasted ignition...coil, condensor, points, plugs and leads replaced) My new rotor arm and dizzy cap arrived today. Fitted them but the car still has no spark. I have 12.5V at the starter solenoid. Measured the coil while cranking. Nothing. The coil is a Lucas...

So what exactly should be where regarding a mini Vin/Chassis plate? On one mini I have only the VIN plate but it was imported by my Dad from the UK before. I reckon the scuttle was changed before though as I never saw any numbers and have long since painted over it. On another mini I have the vin pl...

Chrome ones go over the plastic arches and you screw (or possibly rivet) the chrome ones to the other arch. They have pre cut slots where the screws go through.

What I can't understand is why they don't just have a declaration sheet for an indefinite period of time. I mean people are going to either have their cars on the road taxed or off the road for restoration or whatever. And if people are caught without tax well its no different to now then is it. Hav...

Nope, it's the one to the front brake line that runs around the front subframe so the bottom left as you look in at the car from the front. Yeah, I checked both the threads on the valve and on the union with a second valve and union. They both went fine. I know they have to be lined up correctly too...

Hi forum, I'm having a bit of difficulty getting the final pipe into the brake bias valve on my mini. The bias valve is old but the pipe and threads are brand new, yet it will only thread so far before slipping back over the threads. I've tried another pipe and union and they screw into the valve no...

What about Plasti Dip Joey? Dunno if you've seen it but there's some good videos on youtube about it. Not very strong against briars or stones but avoid them and you'll be grand! :) They do different colours, mattes and pearls so might be worth looking into maybe? very little prep work needed too fo...

Well probably about time I update this again! Firstly, since my last post I made an order to minisport for the clutch and various other parts. In the meantime, I fitted the chrome bezels and wipers I bought. http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa462/Shaydey77/IMG_20120407_161034_zps27ceb3c0.jpg I al...

Thanks for the replies.

He emailed the VRT himself and they said to get it roadworthy as soon as possible and keep all documentation possible like ye suggested.

Up to himself now if he wants to do it! :)

Thanks again.

I was chatting with a few of the lads earlier when the topic of importing a project car (vintage mini) came up. He said that he wouldnt have to pay the VRT straight away as the car had no engine or gearbox. I wasnt so sure as tax office always find ways to make you pay!!! Anyone ever imported a proj...
