Hi I have a fuel leak in my mini where petrol keeps coming out of the overflow pipe where the float is
took all carb etc off and cleaned it all down and the overflow stopped and worked fine again
just wondering if it is dirt in the petrol tank?
Anybody have any ideas thanks in advance Colm

It sounds like your float was sticking, cleaning it obviously solved the problem.

Hi I already did that and evrything was fine but 4 miles later and it has happened again
I noticed that on the fuel line there was no fuel filter coming in to the chamber
the engine is a 1380 cc tuned by Peter Baldwin of Wilshires Garages so I figured that is why there isnt one there
But is this the cause of the re occuring dirty chamber
I only bought the car 2 weeks ago but the last owner didnt have this problem?

maybe in the last couple of weeks the tank was ran really low to the point that dirt was sucked up from the bottom of the tank but an inline filter is always a good idea to have fitted to help prevent this occuring

This is my first mini in 13 years but I remember all previous minis I had did have one.
The one I have now is a 1380 cc and I wasnt sure if it didnt have to gain better performance?

High colmcassidy, it is very posable that an inline filter on the suction side of the lift pump could hamper proformance. as fare as i know your mini is fitted with the standard mechanical lift pump which creats a very low depresion value by puting a filter between that and the tank could in some cases cose your lift pump to fail. if i was fitting a inline fuel filter i would fit it to the high presure side of the system this is the the pipe coming from the fuel pump th the carb float chamber. another potion is to fit a sedment boal i have one fitted to my 988cc austion and it works a charm.I also fitted a stanless steel fuel tank which i got from mini sport which keeps the fuel a lot better.

I would have thought that an electric pump of some sort would be need on a 1380, and depending on what carb you are using a filter king and pressure regulator as well.

Agreed. For a roadgoing 1380 I would recommend an electric Facet solid state pump & regulator, both fitted in boot, close to tank outlet. A filter in the same location will work wonders.

i stand corected on the lift pump i was not sure so it is the electric lift in the 1380cc would still recomend putting filter in the high presure side altho you risk dirt particals reaching the pump element the likehood of damage cos of this is rair and far less the cavation caused by fuel starvaion. but yes fit the pump and filter as close to thank as possable.

The Facet pump comes with an in-line filter that is fitted on the tank side of the pump, but fitting a Filter King after the pump,(on the front bulkhead) will give you better filtration and depending on the model you use, it will give you the opportunity to vary the fuel pressure as well.
