Modifications: stage 1 kit 12" mini lights ,and a hole heap of new shiney parts

the piston rings need changing in my 998 what els should i be changing while the engine is out and apart i dont want to spend crazy money and do i need to be looking at plus sizes or can i just go for standered any help would be great thanks

well from my own personal experiance youll need a full gasget set cause yall hav to split the box,new oil pump,and while your that far a central oil pic up,and dnt do what i did and damage all the main bearings going around left hand corners!!gud crack tho!

Good time to change the camshaft also if you want more power. Always good idea to fit new oilpump.

What Minis have you?: Mk1 Austin Mini,Mk3 Layland Mini,72Van,81 Clubman Estate, 87 Race carand a 2000 Rover Cooper.
Modifications: Mk1: 998 with flat top slipper pistons, 286 cam, 12G940 head 11:1 compression twin inch and a half SU's 5 speed gearbox. Mk3 998 automatic no mods, 72Van is a pile of rust, , Racer is being built but has the works and the 2000 rover cooper needs an engine again :(

You will need to have the engine professionally measured when it is striped, in my experience you will find that the cylinder bores have worn considerably and will need to be re-bored to the next size up. In this case you will need a new set of pistons which come with a set of rings. while you have the engine completely to bits it would be advisable to have the crank measured for wear and if need ground to the next size down.

if the cylinder head has not been looked at it would be advisable to have that overhauled. as the lads have said below it is imperative you change all the gaskets and Oil pump as well as cam followers and timing chain.
