Hi all, need to replace the throttle cable on the estate. Did I read here before that a bicycle brake cable will suffice? Is this a quick fix only, or will it do a permanent job?

I was using one with no major issues. The biggest problem was trying to get it fed through to the pedal from the engine bay. I was also worried about it melting so put a proper cable on it!

That must have been a struggle it supposed to go the way. IMHO a brake cable would take more abuse. Probably no difference in them at all.

Gear cable is alot thinner than Brake cable, they also have different ends.
Cant Imagine the steel cable melting either, Id imagine if it gets that hot the cable is the least of your worries :p

Thanks for the replies folks. I intend putting this mini into regular use, just need to fill her with fresh oil and replace the kinked cable and we should be set.

Thanks merlin, changed the oil today but not driving 100% due, I suspect to either a kinked cable and/or timing or carb adj. issues. It will be next week when I get up to you if thats ok. Ill bell ya friday.
