Hi All,
Im looking to upgrade the brakes on the Clubman GT. Its still standard brakes on it, which are scary to say the least! What would be the best to go for? I would want whatever would be the best brakes, so I am open to suggestions, as well as prices. Its running on 10s.

Probably KAD 4 pots but not that cheap

Alot of people swear by the minispares 4 pot alloy calipers, I found them to be great calipers and a cheaper option that the KADs.

Thanks for the replies guys. In relation to the minispares ones, is it a case of buying that kit than 4 vented discs? That would be around £500, so around €700, plus another bit on top for installation?

I was going to look at a rebuild, but my thinking is, spend the money now and save in the long run..

I have 100bhp engine in my Mini with Cooper S brakes and dont find myself wanting/needing more braking power. If i do, ill upgrade to a set of Carbon Lorraine pads which are meant to be amazing.

Braking power comes down to your tires too though. I run a set of Avons on mine which probably help with the brakes on my car.

I need to check the tyres actually. They have decent grip. I've had a few scary moments braking, so wanted something better!

Cheap option that works (I have done it so I know) new pistons, seals and fast road pads .

I run a set of KAD 4 pots on my own mini and ran them for ages with greenstuff pads in but was never overly impressed with the brakes from cold, and heating them to the right temperature took a little spirited driving,
i changed to Carbone Lorraine pads a while back on a suggestion from Merlin (Paul Hickey, Hickey race engineering) He'd be the man to do it for you too!
and Oh My God! do they work well!
the first time i stood on the brakes i nearly flipped the car!

from this and taking into account that you have already got the standard set up, my suggestion to you would be to get your existing set up rebuilt and get a set of Carbone Lorraine pads, i think that would be more than enough to stop you whenever you wanted

I have Carbon Lorraine pads in stock for, KAD 4 pot, mini Sparea 4 pots, Cooper S 7.9,
mini 8.4. I have All the abouve in CR5 which is fast road/ track day pad. They are quite expensive but very worth wile.

I have fitted them to 8 road going minis At the moment and all reports are a masive improvment in braking from cold.

as most peps are saying the s discs are up to the job.
on my 110BHP mini i had a set of rebuilt s discs, nothing fancy, no servo, ran the carbon pads and the road legal track day tyres.
put alot of cars to shame around nutts and Kirkistown.

As with everything else, before you upgrade, get what you have properly sorted first and then see if you feel the need to upgrade.

I have Carbone Lorraine pads on my bike, great pads compared to the standard, dont have them on the mini though, always found the standard servo and standard 8.4 setup to be more than adequate for me. Although my mates say they are shite, and I say the brakes in their civic etc are a bit too strong, just a matter of getting used to them i suppose if your coming from a more modern set up..

how are the C-L pads like for dust?

They are no more dusty than any of the performance brake pads out there.

Are you running a servo and if so have you cheaked its working properly. Tyres are just as important as brakes for stoping quickly.
