Hi everyone, I took the mini out for the weekend and on the way home this evening I heard a ping noise after going over a bump, got out to discover this had sheared off from somewhere.Image
I checked the bottom of the shocks as the bolt going through those onto the hub is about this size but all 4 are still there, there are no leaks anywhere, Ill bring it to a garage in the morning but if anyone can give me some bit of an idea as to where they might think it belongs it would be great? Its a sportspack MPI.

I'd be with Keith on this one, the radiator mount is attached ti the side of the gearbox with 2 long bolts, so hopefully the other one is still in situe .

What Minis have you?: 1976 saloon , 1275cc, White with black roof. Converted to Discs on the cheap so stuck with 12"s for now.
99% Rad mounting bolt.....only it looks like it's missing some thread. Possibly sheared off rather than loosened.

edit; just noticed you have an MPi . Is your rad front mounted ?

The rad is front mounted and is solid to the frame so there's nothing missing there, also I checked the bottom of the shocks and their fully intact missing no bolts??

ok, lets look at this again: its rusted at each end, quite shiny in the middle, so Bert's suggestion of shock bolt could be on the money: clearly the bolt lives inside something usually, with either a captive nut or a lock nut/nut and washer on one end.

no oil/grease anywhere makes it less likely to be engine/gearbox. would be interesting to know exactly how long it is and what size head is on it, any markings on the head? and what thread is. *but* not being familiar with MPi's .... at a loss.

is there an *outside* chance it didn't come from a mini at all ?

The bolt is 95mm now so before it sheared off it was probably 100mm+, and it has a 14mm hexagonal head on it. It is actually almost equal in length to and width to the bolt going through the bottom of the shock which has me rightly puzzled. I'll bring it out to Wards in Kildimo as soon as I get the chance and get him to have a look because as you say Keith it may not even be off the car. :?

Are there any parts to the exhaust/manifold it may have come off, its a standard exhaust?

Any chance it was just lying on the road and when you ran over it it flew up and that it is not off your car at all?

I don't think this helps much, but the Rover workshop manual has the following in it, under the heading "Bolt Identification"

An ISO metric bolt or screw made of steel and larger
than 6 mm in diameter can be identified by either of
the symbols ISO M or M embossed or indented on
top of the head.
In addition to marks to identify the manufacturer, the
head is also marked with symbols to indicate the
strength grade, e.g. 8.8; 10.9; 12.9; 14.9. As an
alternative, some bolts and screws have the M and
strength grade symbol on the flats of the hexagon

And for Nuts :
A nut with an ISO metric thread is marked on one
face or on one of the flats of the hexagon with the
strength grade symbol 8, 12, or 14. Some nuts with
a strength grade 4, 5 or 6 are also marked and some
have the metric symbol M on the flat opposite the
strength grade marking.
A clock face system is used as an alternative
method of indicating the strength grade. The
external chambers or a face of the nut is marked in a
position relative to the appropriate hour mark on a
clock face to indicate the strength grade.
A dot is used to locate the 12 o’clock position and a
dash to indicate the strength grade. If the grade is
above 12, two dots identify the 12 o’clock position.
