Hi all,

First of all I would like to say hello and say something about me. I live in Cork and I have a 96 Peugeot 306 that is doing ok for now (fingers crossed).

I also have 92 mini cooper in Spain and i am thinking about bringing it over. Does any one know about the procedure, taxes, etc it would involve?

I would really appreciate any help, because if I don't bring it I am afraid I would have to sell it.

Thank you very much in advance.

Saludos.

P.S: Sorry about the spelling, please feel free to correct me.

Welcome to the IMOC , just a few questions in order to advise you the best way of getting your car to Ireland , are you living permanantly in Ireland ? have you lived recently in Spain ? I ask because you may qualify to bring your car to Ireland tax free under 'change of residence' regulations in order to qualify you must have owned the car for at least 6 months in Spain registered in your name , ( proof is required ) you must show proof of residence in Spain during the same timeframe , you must show proof of a permanent move to Ireland ( ie employment details psp number etc ) now if you qualify you can being your car in free of taxes , if not you will have to pay VRT which will be only € 315 in any case . if I can help further let me know , I am also in Cork . Is it worth bringing the car to Ireland ?, the insurance companys will probably load you for having left hand drive and as its a 92 you can't get classic insurance, you will have to take out a seperate insurance policy and start with a 0% No-Claims-Bonus.

First of all, thank you very much irlmin for the welcome and the advise.

I've been living and working here for 3 years now, but I am not registered as a citizen in the embassy. Basically that means the goverment in Spain don't know I am here. It's just because I never found the time to go to Dublin and do all the paperwork. I was planning to do it in the near future, but now that I am thinking about bringing the car, maybe I should wait.

Now, the car is not on my name, it's in my father's name. So, If I understood well, I can put the car on my name, wait 6 months and bring it over without having to pay the 300 euro (not a big deal anyway).

The other option would be just bring it over, resgister it (pay the VRT), change the plates, get a insurance here. Am I right?

Thank you very much for the help. Just a final question. Does anyone know any company that could possibly bring the car form Spain in a truck or something? I have been trying to find one but no one do that type of work. I am afraid I will have to drive all the way up :( It will be a good expereience anyway.

Saludos.

Look at IMM2005 in the Gallery.
What you do is take out AA 5-Star cover. Drive from Salou to 80Km from Roscoff (approx). Run the threads on one of your Drive Flanges at the sida of a very busy Dual Carriageway. Walk 1 km (in the wrong direction) to a S.O.S phone and call for a Towtruck. YOu then havev your Mini delivered to your door.
