Thats an interesting idea never seen that one, so you machine it flat (i.e. pear off the cup) and bolt the outer section to that? sems a lot of work though so why wouldn't you just use the Hardy Spicer inputs.

You need the diff side plates for the hardy spicer joints.

Modded pot joint works on standard diff casing.

UPDATE:

Well made a bit of progress on the engine Today, I bashed out all the core plugs and Oil gallery plugs and dipped the block which removed all the rust and paint.

I Then seat about repairing a hole the was formed in the block when a piece of gearbox decided I did not want to stay in the sump.
Never the less the hole is in a non critical place so it was wort saving IMO

From this:

To this:

I then set about tapping the block for 5/16 unf gearbox studs, while I was at it I taped the Oil gallery plugs to M14 and fitted some Tapered bungs.

I then Set about fitting the 3 Steel main caps and ARP studs and nuts:

I also blocked up all the water ways in the deck for the dry deck just forgot to take a photo.

The block is now all ready to go off and get line bored and honed It should be back by the end of next week.

Following on from what you said on the thread about that 1544cc A-series and 5speed box, are you expecting to have any fuelling problems, with using a 5port head as opposed to a 16v or even one of those fancy X-flow heads?

I like what you did with the hole

Yes Kona It is still Quite hard to fuel the 1480 it is just about passable to get the fueling right by reducing the choke sizes in the carb to 36 this produces a stronger signal over the main venture which gets more fuel into the air stream
