 Post subject: spi to carb conversion

hey first post here :). id like some information on this if possible please, if theres anyone out there with experience or knowledge. iv been considering doing this, id like a mini i can tune myself and with my spi this doesn seem very possible, i want a fast road mini. if i was to convert my spi to carb could i still use it as my everyday driver, and how much would i be looking at to convert and is it a big job, and come nct time am i totally screwd or is there ways of getting around it, and in general would you reccomend it or do you think i should just stay away from the idea. would really appreciate any replys thanks

As far as I know Lloyd Hutchinson has done a few of them I think it would be pretty hard to get through an NCT and you'll have to do one every year from now on. Why now look at something like a programmable ecu

What Minis have you?: Mk1 Austin Mini,Mk3 Layland Mini,72Van,81 Clubman Estate, 87 Race carand a 2000 Rover Cooper.
Modifications: Mk1: 998 with flat top slipper pistons, 286 cam, 12G940 head 11:1 compression twin inch and a half SU's 5 speed gearbox. Mk3 998 automatic no mods, 72Van is a pile of rust, , Racer is being built but has the works and the 2000 rover cooper needs an engine again :(

Hi Scott, As Macker says I have converted a few SPI's to carburettor,
if you want to give me a call at some stage I will run trough the pros and cons of the conversion I can also offer advice on the tuning side of thinks.
